SAC Meeting
The KVK has constituted the Scientific Advisory Committee as per the guidelines of ICAR which comprises of representatives from ICAR institutes, State Agriculture University, Development departments of the District, Media personnel, Financial institutions and progressive farmers and farm women. Apart from the members special invitees also attend the meeting. On an average 16 members and 4 invitees attend each Scientific Advisory Committee meeting of KVK.

The Scientific Advisory Committee meetings are conducted to get necessary guidance and support to carry out the mandated activities of KVK in a more planned and scientific manner.

The 8th Scientific Advisory committee meeting of KVK, Sambalpur was held on dt. 29-07-13 under the Chairmanship of Prof. S. S. Nanda, Dean, Directorate of Extension Education, OUAT, Bhubaneswar. In the meeting Prof. D. K. Dash (Asso. Dean, College of Agril. & Horticulture), Ashok Mohanty, DDA, Sambalpur, B. Sahu, DDH, Sambalpur, Dr. B. S. Naik (ADR, RRTTS, Chiplima), R. K. Panda (Supdt. Engineer, Hirakud Dam circle), S. K. Patra, DFO, Dr. P. K. Ray (Director, CCB), R. C. Sahoo (AGM, NABARD) & other officials of line department, scientist of RRTTS and progressive farmers of the district were present. After lightening of the lamp by the Chairman and members, Programme Co-ordinator of KVK, Mr. Pramod Ku. Prusti, highlighted the achievements for the year 2012-13 and proposed the Action Plan for Kharif-2013 of KVK, Sambalpur. All the members gave their valuable suggestions and the Chairman Prof. S. S. Nanda summarized all the suggestions. While summarizing Prof. S. S. Nanda told the house that now a days there is the need for Crop diversification, Micronutrient application and intercropping in different crops. This helps in higher income of the farmers per unit of land. Accordingly Boron application in paddy and maize intercropped with Cowpea was suggested. In horticulture sector, Onion and Pointed gourd are other two major vegetable crops which are now given importance because it fetches more market value as compared to other crops. Onion crop is generally taken in Rabi season by the farmers in Sambalpur district. So cultivation of Kharif Onion and trelley system of pointed gourd and Spine gourd cultivation were proposed. To feed the ever increasing population and getting higher yield, hybrid varieties should be popularized among the farmers and cropping intensity should be increased. So, micro-irrigation system and popularization of different hybrid varieties among the farmers has been proposed. In the discipline of Plant Protection, IPM in vegetable like Okra, Brinjal and Cole crops, Pest Management through biological control measures were proposed. Also as paddy is a measure crop in the district and it is being infested by BPH and sheath blight regularly, hence IPM programmes for its control measures were planned to be executed in near future.

The meeting was ended with vote of thanks to the Chairperson and other dignitaries present on the said occasion.
