Description of Innovation
Ranjit Mirig, aged 61 belongs to village Gadamunda, is a progressive farmer of the district Sambalpur. He earns his
livelihood from agriculture only. He is having 6 acres of land and paddy is being cultivated both in Kharif and Rabi
season. During the transplanting of paddy he was facing severe labour problem. The situation motivated him to go for a
transplanter. He found machine operated transplanter was too costly for him. So he thought for a hand operated paddy
transplanter. He has dedicated 22 years of his life to invent a hand operated transplanter without fuel. For which he
was awared by different organization of Govt. of Odisha. The weight of the machine is about 45 kg, Length 5 feet,
Width 2.5 feet. Two labour is required during operation / transplantation, one for pulling the machine & another for

Practical utility of Innovation
To solve the labour problem in paddy transplanting, it is suitable for small land holding farmers. Two man can
transplant paddy in 7-8 hrs / acre. The machine has 5 fingers for transplanting and the machine is operated by hand.
Age of the seedling suitable for this transplanting is 12-14 days & spacing R-R = 18 cm & P-P=15 cm is maintained.
It takes 1/7 th time of manual transplanting. The cost of the machine is about Rs 20,000/-.
